The Crew 2 is getting an offline mode play test and it, unsurprisingly, won’t have all of its online features

Ubisoft made an announcement last year that both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest would be receiving offline modes. This decision was likely influenced by the backlash from fans when the original The Crew was shut down. There is currently a lawsuit over the first game. The playtest for The Crew 2 will be happening on April 30th.
Producer Gregory Corgie shared this news in a video update, primarily focusing on The Crew 2, which will be the first to receive the offline mode. Access to the playtest will be based on individual configurations and previous community involvement. Players don’t need to worry about their save files, as a separate one will be created specifically for testing the offline mode.

The developer plans to release a hybrid mode by the end of the year, allowing players to switch between online and offline gameplay. The delay in implementing a full offline mode is due to the game’s original design as an online-only experience. Ubisoft wants to ensure that the offline mode functions properly before releasing it.
Corgie clarified that online multiplayer features will not be available in offline mode, although this restriction may not apply to all aspects of the game. A detailed list of features that will and won’t work in offline mode will be provided in the future. This information will be helpful for players to understand the differences between online and offline gameplay.
The introduction of an offline mode for The Crew 2 and Motorfest raises questions about Ubisoft’s ongoing lawsuit. The company argues that players were “purchasing a license” to play the game, not ownership of the game itself. It remains to be seen how this argument will play out in court.
