What is the plot of Wednesday season 2?

The season 1 finale explained the mystery of Goody Addams, Joseph Crackstone, and the lurking forest creature. However, not all threads were neatly tied up. In the last scene, Wednesday receives an anonymous message and a series of ominous photos. Evidently, someone else is lurking around the school, not pleased with Wednesday’s presence. Does this connect to Marilyn Thornhill’s case? And who is the stalker?

Speaking of Marilyn, her fate is undecided, much like Tyler, who escapes from the prison convoy. Will he seek revenge on Wednesday, or have a change of heart?

The first season also introduced a mysterious cult to which Bianca’s mother belongs. This dangerous organisation will undoubtedly be involved in one of the critical plot lines in the upcoming episodes.

There are many more questions to be answered. Who will lead the Nevermore Academy after Larissa Weems’ death? What about Wednesday and Xavier’s romance? How will the relationship between Wednesday and Morticia unfold?

As showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in an interview for Hollywood Reporter:

We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like? It’s like, she hugged. That was her big arc for the season, right? So it’s like now, we do that. Then, the other thing that’s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well, which now that Morticia knows about the power, it has given her sort of an idea of how that’s going to go. How is their relationship going to evolve?

Interestingly, during a conversation on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Jenna Ortega said that Wednesday season 2 might abandon teen drama themes and focus on horror instead:

We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.

Who is starring in Wednesday season 2?

According to Entertainment Weekly, the cast of Wednesday season 2 will feature Lady Gaga herself. The pop star, who recently released a new album accompanying Joker: Folie à Deux, in which she played Harley Quinn, has been developing her acting career for quite some time.

Besides starring in the mentioned DC film, Gaga also appeared in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, A Star is Born by Bradley Cooper, two Machete movies by Robert Rodriguez and two seasons of American Horror Story. For her acting achievements, she was nominated for several awards, and in 2019, she won an Oscar for her song Shallow for A Star is Born movie.

In 2023 Jenna Ortega mentioned that she would love Lady Gaga to join the cast of Wednesday season 2:

I’m sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other. (via Entertainment Weekly)

For now, it’s not unknown who Lady Gaga will play, but her appearance in the series will certainly make Wednesday’s viewership shoot up even more.

• Naomi J. Yoko Tanaka will star as Ogawa in Season 2 of the show. Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia Addams, while Luis Guzmán will portray Gomez Addams. Isaac Ordonez will take on the role of Pugsley Addams, and Fred Armisen will play Uncle Fester. Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo will appear as Deputy Ritchie Santiago, and Jamie McShane will portray Sheriff Donovan Galpin.

  The upcoming season will also feature Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, a mysterious character rumored to be the new headmaster of Nevermore Academy. Billie Piper will join the cast as Capri, and Joanna Lumley will play Grandmama. Thandiwe Newton will portray Dr. Fairburn, and Christopher Lloyd will make an appearance in an undisclosed role.

  Additional cast members include Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamowill.

  Co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough expressed their excitement about the new cast members and the mix of fresh faces and acting legends joining the show. Unfortunately, Percy Hynes White will not be returning as Xavier Thorpe due to allegations of sexual assault.

  The official teaser for Wednesday season 2 showcases the Addams Family gearing up for more dark shenanigans. Netflix has also released an announcement video teasing the upcoming episodes.
