Kirby Air Riders soars onto the Nintendo Switch 2, with none other than Smash Bros’ royalty Masahiro Sakurai leading development

A new Kirby Air Ride game is coming, at last! Kirby Air Riders is coming in 2025, and is being directed by none other than Smash Bros’ royalty Masahiro Sakurai. There’s no word yet on when exactly this year it’ll be coming out, but nonetheless, expect it soon.
Revealed during today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, we don’t get to see too much on Kirby Air Riders apart from a few seconds of cinematics, but as a tone setter it does its job. Kirby soars through the sky, alongside other colourful Kirby’s on their own vehicles of choice.
For those who are unfamiliar with the original game, Kirby Air Ride was a racing game released on the Nintendo GameCube. It supported up to four players, and was well received among critics and fans alike. What’s nice about this is that the original Kirby Air Ride was the final Kirby game Sakurai directed before moving on to the Smash Bros series. So this is a nice full circle moment for one of Nintendo’s most famous developers.
That’s unfortunately all the information we really have on Kirby Air Riders as of right now. But, again, with a vague 2025 release date we’re sure to learn more about the game over the coming months. Are you looking forward to grabbing Kirby Air Riders? Let us know below!
