As everyone questions if extraction shooters will ever get mega popular, Arc Raiders lines up another playtest

I have noticed a lot of discussions lately about whether Marathon or Arc Raiders will be the game to bring extraction shooters into the mainstream. It’s hard to say for sure since neither game has been released yet. Arc Raiders, developed by former Battlefield devs, is also set to test the waters in this genre. Embark Studios recently announced a new playtest for Arc Raiders coming up this month.
To sign up for the playtest on Steam, simply visit the game’s page and request access to the beta. The test will run from April 30 to May 4, but not everyone will get to participate. It’s worth a shot if you’re interested in the potential of extraction shooters becoming mainstream.

Embark Studios has shared that they’ve incorporated feedback from the previous test into Arc Raiders, making tweaks and improvements. They have added more Arc enemies, weapons, gear, and enhanced player progression and crafting systems. Additionally, players will get a preview of the game’s battle pass.
The premise of Arc Raiders, where humans are in hiding from evil robots in a post-apocalyptic world, is intriguing. The game’s visuals and setting have a unique appeal.
On the other hand, Marathon also looks promising in terms of gameplay. However, concerns have been raised about the lack of content at launch. This raises doubts about whether Marathon can successfully popularize extraction shooters, a challenging genre.
Only time will tell how these games will fare. While games like Hunt: Showdown and Escape from Tarkov are doing well, the future of extraction shooters remains uncertain. We’ll have a better idea by the end of the year!
