Pop star Katy Perry and five other women embarked on a space adventure aboard a Blue Origin rocket, successfully returning to Earth on Monday (April 14, 2025). This mission marked the first all-female spaceflight in more than 60 years.
The crew took off from West Texas at 9.31 a.m. ET (7.01 p.m. IST) and journeyed to the edge of space, experiencing weightlessness before landing back on Earth after approximately 11 minutes of flight time. The live broadcast by Blue Origin, founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, captured the entire journey.
This spaceflight serves as a significant achievement for Mr. Bezos’ New Shepard launch vehicle, designed for space tourism.
The crew of six included Mr. Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
After experiencing weightlessness, Ms. Perry serenaded the crew with Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World’ upon their return to their seats.

“I feel incredibly connected to love,” expressed Ms. Perry upon her return to Earth.
She held a daisy flower, which she brought on the journey to symbolize her daughter, Daisy.
“Daisies may be ordinary flowers, but they thrive in any environment … They symbolize resilience, power, and strength.”
This historic flight marked the first all-female spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s pioneering solo orbit around the Earth nearly six decades ago.
