Sorry Canada, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have also been delayed to align with conditions “to be determined in the US”

According to a statement released by Nintendo Canada to MobileSyrup, it seems that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch in Canada will be delayed beyond the planned April 9 date.

The statement, received by Nintendo of Canada, states, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not begin on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.”

This delay follows a similar situation that affected American Nintendo fans last Friday, as Nintendo cited the need to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” These conditions refer to the tariffs imposed by the USA on countries like China and Vietnam, where the Switch 2 is manufactured.

Given the escalating trade tensions between the USA and China, such tariffs could raise the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the USA. The reason for Canada experiencing a delay is less clear. Nintendo mentions alignment with U.S. pre-order timings, but the significance of this alignment is not elaborated upon. It could be a measure to prevent consumers from ordering through Canadian channels to avoid extra costs or to maintain consistency in North American release schedules.

If you are a Canadian who was planning to pre-order a Switch 2 tomorrow, share your thoughts on this development below.
