Google April Pixel Drop: Only One New Feature For Phones

Google Pixel phones and the Latest Pixel Drop

Google Pixel phones are known for their popularity and regular Pixel Drops that bring new features to users. The brand has established a monthly rhythm for these updates, with April’s edition being a bit different than usual.

While previous drops typically included 15-20 new features, this month’s update focuses on introducing one significant feature – the Gemini Live feature. This new feature has the potential to revolutionize the way users interact with their AI assistant.

With Gemini Live, users can now show the AI assistant what they are looking at through the phone’s camera or share their screen to seek advice. For example, users can ask Gemini to identify a shark at an aquarium, providing a unique and interactive experience.

This camera and screen sharing feature is available to all Pixel 9 users at no additional cost, as well as to those with a Gemini Advanced subscription. It is not exclusive to Pixel 9 phones, making it accessible to a wider audience.

In addition to the new features for Pixel phones, April’s Pixel Drop includes a feature specifically for Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 users. The Scam Detection feature, already available on Pixel phones, is now extended to Pixel watches in the US for English speakers connected to a Pixel 9 via Bluetooth.

Scam Detection helps users avoid calls from suspicious sources, providing an alert during calls to notify users of potential scams. While not 100% accurate, this feature adds an extra layer of security for Pixel Watch users.

According to Google, “Your Pixel Watch alerts you to a scam mid-call when it receives a Bluetooth signal from your Pixel 9 Phone. So if you’re on the go, you can be alerted to a scam call without needing to take out your phone.”
