Gimenez homers as Blue Jays down Washington
In a thrilling interleague matchup, the Toronto Blue Jays emerged victorious over the Washington Nationals with a score of 5-2. Andres Gimenez continued his impressive performance with his third home run in five games, while Bowden Francis delivered a strong pitching performance, allowing only two hits in six innings.
Gimenez showcased his versatility by walking, getting hit by a pitch, stealing his 100th career base, and hitting a double after his home run. Meanwhile, Francis held a no-hitter until the sixth inning when he gave up back-to-back solo home runs to Abrams and Woods.
On the mound for the Nationals, Canadian Michael Soroka had a solid outing despite exiting the game early due to discomfort. The Blue Jays capitalized on their offensive opportunities, securing runs in different innings to secure the win.
The game had a key moment when Gimenez hit a home run off Soroka, making him the first player in franchise history to hit three homers in his first five games of the season.
Looking ahead, the Jays will face off against the Nationals again with Berrios and Williams expected to start on the mound.
