SpaceX will launch Tesla’s humanoid Optimus robot to Mars next year

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has hinted that 2025 will be a crucial year for the company’s humanoid robot plans. However, the real excitement may come in 2026 when SpaceX, another company led by Musk, aims to send an Optimus robot to Mars on its Starship rocket.

In a recent post, Musk mentioned that the Starship is scheduled to depart for Mars by the end of 2026 with Optimus on board. If successful, this mission could pave the way for human landings on Mars as early as 2029.

This ambitious plan is not new for Musk, who previously stated that SpaceX could send multiple uncrewed Starships to Mars in the near future, with Optimus robots as part of the payload.

The introduction of the Optimus robot at a 2024 event marked a significant milestone for Tesla. Musk described Optimus as the company’s biggest product ever and revealed plans to manufacture thousands of humanoid robots in 2025 with a revenue potential exceeding $10 trillion.

While sending Optimus to Mars may serve as a technical showcase, the success of SpaceX’s uncrewed mission to the red planet will be a major achievement. NASA is also banking on the Starship for its Artemis missions, which aim to return humans to the Moon by 2027 before embarking on crewed missions to Mars.
