According to government spokesman Shahid Rind, the attack took place in the Bolan district while the train was en route from Quetta to Peshawar.
Following the injury of the driver, the train stopped in an isolated area. Rind stated that reinforcements were on their way to Bolan to address the situation, but did not provide further information on the status of the train and its passengers.
“The passengers are currently being held hostage, and the driver has been wounded,” Rind confirmed.
The journey from Quetta to Peshawar, located in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, typically lasts over 30 hours and the train had departed around 9:00 a.m.
As a result of the incident, an emergency has been declared at hospitals in Sibi, as reported by the government official.
