Ethiopian Airlines celebrates International women’s day with all-women flights, BA

Ethiopian Airlines marked International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025 by operating all-women-managed flights to six global destinations. The airline’s celebration highlights its commitment to gender equality, showcasing the significant role of women in aviation. The events included participation from government officials, distinguished guests, and Ethiopian Airlines executives, as the airline honours female contributions to the industry.
On 8th March 2025, Ethiopian Airlines celebrated International Women’s Day with a series of events at the Skylight Hotel, drawing attention to the growing role of women in the aviation industry. The celebration featured a remarkable demonstration of female empowerment through all-women-operated flights, which saw the airline’s female staff managing every aspect of the operation, from catering and check-in to maintenance and flight duties.
The flights, which departed from Addis Ababa, connected to six destinations worldwide, including Bahir Dar, Athens, Delhi, Dubai, Windhoek, and São Paulo. This gesture underscores Ethiopian Airlines’ ongoing efforts to break barriers and promote women’s participation in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Mesfin Tasew, addressed attendees, saying, “We are thrilled to celebrate March 8, as we do every year at Ethiopian Airlines. As an employer of choice, we are deeply committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the aviation industry and the broader community. In today’s modern aviation landscape, women play an indispensable role across all sectors, significantly contributing to the industry’s dynamic growth. Today, we honour the remarkable achievements of women in aviation and beyond, while also inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams without limitations.”
Currently, women represent approximately 40% of Ethiopian Airlines’ workforce, spanning various roles such as cockpit crew, cabin crew, aircraft technicians, and management positions. Through initiatives like all-women-operated flights, the airline continues to push for greater representation and recognition of female leaders in aviation. The event also highlights the airline’s alignment with global efforts towards gender equality.
