Amazon Prime Video Is Testing AI Dubbing

If you prefer not to read subtitles while streaming your favorite shows or movies that are not already dubbed, Amazon may have a solution for you. The company has announced that it will begin testing AI dubbing for licensed content that is typically not dubbed.
These new AI-generated dubs are not created solely by AI. Human translators are also involved in the process to ensure quality. The initial testing will include English and Spanish dubs for 12 films and series, including El Cid: La Leyenda, Mi Mamá Lora, and Long Lost.
Raf Soltanovich, Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios chief technology officer, commented on the new feature, stating: “At Prime Video, we believe in enhancing customers’ experiences with practical and useful AI innovations. We’re eager to explore a new way to make shows and films more accessible and entertaining.”
Traditionally, dubbing is done by voice actors, as seen in popular global series like Squid Game. Amazon’s move towards AI represents a shift in this practice, which is both popular and controversial.
Users can enable the feature by navigating to the Language tab under Accounts and Settings on PC, under My Stuff on the smartphone app, or under the Prime Video settings section on the TV app.
