Flexport Founder Ryan Petersen joins Founders Fund

Flexport, a freight forwarding and logistics company, is introducing a range of new products and features, many of which utilize AI technology. This marks the beginning of a series of biannual announcements from the company. The inspiration for this approach comes from Airbnb’s seasonal product releases.

Ryan Petersen, the founder of Flexport, mentioned that Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky advised him to adopt this strategy during an interview. The next product launch is scheduled for late summer.

The decision to switch to a semi-annual release schedule offers the benefits of setting deadlines and enhancing marketing opportunities. Flexport is set to unveil over 20 new products on Monday, including Flexport Intelligence and Control Tower, both powered by AI technologies from OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS.

One significant change is the introduction of AI to handle tasks that were previously done by Flexport staff, such as providing real-time visibility and control over logistics networks. Despite embracing AI, Petersen emphasized the importance of maintaining strong customer relationships.

The incorporation of AI voice agents into workflows is another key development announced by Flexport. Petersen highlighted the cautious approach taken in testing this technology with truckers and warehouses. While AI advancements are welcomed, Petersen maintains a high standard for customer-facing features.

Overall, Flexport aims to leverage AI to enhance operational efficiency and growth without reducing the workforce. Petersen emphasized the company’s ability to quickly experiment and implement improvements for the benefit of customers.
