Phil Spencer says he wants to “just allow more people to play” Xbox games, though the “70% that we make on games on other platforms is helpful” too

As Xbox games continue to expand to other platforms, Xbox head Phil Spencer reiterates his support for playing games anywhere.

At that time, he mentioned that any game from an Xbox-owned studio released on PlayStation resulted in Sony using the 30% cut to secure other third-party titles, preventing them from coming to Xbox.

Xbox has been consistently releasing games on other platforms for almost a year now, with recent titles like Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. Spencer was asked about prioritizing the 70% revenue from PlayStation releases over the lost 30%. He explained, “I would love to maximize revenue from all our games. While we earn more on our platform, investing in it remains crucial.”

Spencer emphasized the importance of reaching players on other platforms and not solely focusing on Xbox. He highlighted the benefit of the 70% revenue from games on other platforms in building a diverse portfolio. This strategy aligns with Microsoft’s approach to expanding the reach of its franchises.
