Housemarque has unveiled Saros, their upcoming new IP that builds upon the time looping shooter action featured in their PS5 debut game Returnal. Saros is currently in development for PS5 and PS5 Pro, with a scheduled release date of 2026.

This new adventure transports players to the planet Carcosa, where a foreboding eclipse marks the beginning of the end of the world, trapping Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli) in a deadly time loop. As a Soltari Enforcer, he embarks on a quest for answers on a forgotten off-world colony.

Saros will introduce a permanent progression system where each death alters the world and presents new upgrade opportunities to conquer the challenges ahead. In simpler terms, it’s shaping up to be a captivating roguelike experience.

The game will once again feature third-person action gameplay, with a focus on evolving the mechanics from Returnal.

While specific gameplay details are yet to be revealed, anticipation is already building for Saros!

Reflecting on Returnal, our glowing 9/10 review of the PS5 launch title highlighted, “It’s incredibly satisfying to witness Housemarque’s evolution since their days developing Super Stardust HD for the PS3. With its visually stunning bullet hell gameplay, innovative use of the DualSense controller, and engaging sci-fi narrative intertwined with roguelike elements, we confidently declare Returnal as the standout game on the PS5 to date.”
