Tides Of Annihilation brings Devil May Cry's speed and God Of War's scale to post-apocalyptic Arthurian London

Chinese game developers Eclipse Glow Games have unveiled Tides Of Annihilation, a fantasy hack-and-slash game set in a modern yet twisted version of London with Arthurian elements. Players take on the role of Gwendolyn, a fierce warrior tasked with defeating Avalon’s demi-gods by utilizing the Knights of The Round Table.

One intriguing aspect of the game is its Chinese interpretation of London, featuring landmarks like a tipped-over Millennium Wheel and iconic red phone booths. It’s interesting to see how foreign artists portray the cultural heritage of London, even with a plague-ridden twist. However, there are some elements that could be improved, such as the cleanliness of the River Thames and the lack of realism in the phone booths.

The announcement trailer showcases epic boss battles with dramatic dialogues and unique combat animations. With over 30 bosses, including characters with distinct abilities like summoning spectral knights or wielding powerful weapons, Tides Of Annihilation promises an action-packed experience. Gwendolyn is equipped with various combat techniques like combos, dodges, and knight-summoning abilities to aid in battles.

The game draws comparisons to titles like Devil May Cry, Stellar Blade, and Nier Automata, with influences from Final Fantasy 16 evident in the knight-summoning mechanics. Additionally, the gameplay elements resemble God Of War 3 and Shadow Of The Colossus, as players face challenging encounters with colossal enemies in the dynamic environment of London.

Developed by a team funded by Tencent and composed of industry veterans from companies like Sega and Ubisoft, Tides Of Annihilation offers a lengthy gameplay experience of at least 30 hours. However, some criticisms have been directed towards Gwendolyn’s voice acting, likened to a less expressive portrayal compared to iconic characters like Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings. More information about Tides Of Annihilation can be found on its Steam page (currently not live), with no official release date announced yet.
