Disney+ Lost 700,000 Subscribers Following Price Hikes

Recent data shows that the end of 2024 was not a strong period for the streaming platform Disney+. The company’s report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, which covers the last three months of 2024, revealed a decrease in subscribers.
During the months of October to December 2024, approximately 700,000 subscribers discontinued their Disney+ subscriptions. Despite this significant number, it accounts for less than one percent of the total 124.6 million paying users worldwide.
The decline in subscribers followed price increases that were implemented on 17th October 2024. In the US, the ad-supported and Standard tiers saw a $2 per month hike, while UK users experienced a £1 increase for the Standard plan and a £2 increase for the Premium option.
In addition to the price changes, a password-sharing crackdown was introduced in September, which may have also contributed to the subscriber losses. However, revenue still saw an increase during this quarter, fueled by the success of Moana 2 surpassing the $1 billion mark at the box office.
