Bayonetta celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and despite a recent staff exodus, PlatinumGames has teased it has "a few things in store"

It’s hard to believe that Bayonetta is now 15 years old, and PlatinumGames has teased something exciting!

Technically, Bayonetta turned 15 last year, with its earliest release date being October 29, 2009 in Japan. However, for the rest of the world, it was released a bit later. In the US, it came out on January 5, in Australia on January 7, and in the EU on January 8. PlatinumGames chose to acknowledge the game’s anniversary today, January 6, as a middle ground. The official PlatinumGames account on Twitter even mentioned that the international release was in January 2010, so they are making 2025 a year of celebration. They also teased, “We have a few things in store to celebrate this milestone so keep your eyes peeled.”

What could this mean? It’s uncertain! PlatinumGames also posted a 15th-anniversary statement on their official website, expressing gratitude for the support of Bayonetta and PlatinumGames. This hints at the possibility of something new coming, but the big questions remain: what is it, and who is behind it? Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Bayonetta and co-founder of PlatinumGames, left the studio in 2023 and is now working on an Okami sequel at his new studio, Clovers.

Additionally, in an interview with VGC, Kamiya confirmed that most of Clovers’ staff are from PlatinumGames. There have been rumors that several key members at Platinum have also departed, although this has not been officially confirmed. This situation may put Platinum in a challenging position, especially since the only known upcoming game is Project G.G., led by Kamiya. It remains unclear what other projects the studio is currently working on. However, fans can still look forward to celebrating Bayonetta in some capacity. Eventually. Theoretically.
