EA has revised its financial forecasts for the current fiscal year following disappointing performance from EA Sports FC 25 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard at the end of 2024.

Initially anticipating a mid-single-digit growth in live services net bookings, which include game sales, DLC, and microtransactions, EA now expects a mid-single-digit decline, primarily due to the slowdown in EA Sports FC 25.

Although FC 25 is primarily responsible for the financial downturn, the underperformance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard raises concerns about the company’s future direction.

While EA stated that The Veilguard engaged around 1.5 million players during its release quarter, this figure is nearly 50 percent lower than anticipated and does not accurately reflect total game sales. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, The Veilguard falls short of the success achieved by its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, with strategic marketing efforts, the game could potentially reach a wider audience in the first half of 2025 through subscription services and promotional discounts.

This development raises questions about the future of BioWare and increases the pressure for their next game to succeed, especially with the studio’s focus shifting to the next Mass Effect installment.

Our review of Dragon Age: The Veilguard was positive, with Jason stating, “The Veilguard is a visually stunning and highly engaging game that brings back the essence of RPG storytelling that fans of the Dragon Age series and BioWare will appreciate. The gameplay is enjoyable, the decisions impactful, and fans will be delighted to immerse themselves in the world of Dragon Age once again.”
