A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against former Awami League MP Shakib Al Hasan on Sunday, January 19, 2025, over two bounced bank cheques.

Hasan, who has not returned to Bangladesh due to concerns for his safety, was issued the warrant as he failed to appear in court over a case related to bounced cheques.

The court also issued a warrant against the managing director of Hasan’s agriculture farm, Gazi Shahagir Hossain, for not responding to the summons.

Hasan, Bangladesh’s most successful cricketer, played his last Test match against India in Kanpur and is set to make his final appearance in the Champions Trophy in Dubai. He is currently banned from bowling in cricket due to a suspect action.

Hasan, who now resides in the United States, was elected as an MP for the Awami League in the January 7, 2024 elections. The case against him was filed by the International Finance Investment and Commerce (IFIC) Bank.

The IFIC Bank issued a legal notice over the bounced cheques last year and filed the case against Hasan and three other officials of his company on December 24. Two of the officials surrendered before the court on January 19, 2025, and were granted bail after a hearing.

Hasan, former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, established the Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm in Satkhira in 2016. The company has reportedly been inactive since 2021.
