Have you had your copy of Metroid Prime 4 pre-ordered since it was announced? You might want to double check, as Amazon has apparently started cancelling orders
Metroid Prime 4 is set to release sometime this year, but it appears that Amazon has started canceling orders for the game.
Believe it or not, it will have been eight years since the initial announcement of Metroid Prime 4 later this year. The game underwent a restart in development at Retro Studios six years ago. Nintendo finally re-revealed the game last June with the subtitle “Beyond,” even showcasing gameplay for the first time. Despite the long wait, some of you may have pre-ordered the game since its initial announcement. However, if you pre-ordered through Amazon, you may want to verify if your order is still in place, as several users online have reported canceled pre-orders.
In a post on the Metroid subreddit, several commenters shared that their Amazon pre-orders had been canceled, with some noting that they had applied pre-order discounts. Since Amazon doesn’t typically offer discounts like that for video game pre-orders nowadays, it’s understandable that the company would retract these offers. Additionally, there’s a possibility that Nintendo may price Metroid Prime 4 as another $70 release, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
One user on Resetera shared the email notification they received about their canceled order, with Amazon citing “a lack of availability.” This led some to speculate humorously (and others more seriously) that it could be a Switch 2 exclusive. However, considering Breath of the Wild also launched on the Wii U, it would be a surprising move from Nintendo. Moreover, Nintendo recently released a list of games coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2025, which would reflect poorly if they suddenly switched platforms. Regardless, it’s certainly frustrating for those who had discounts, but it may be best to avoid purchasing from Amazon, at least for now.
