Intel claims Core Ultra 200 patches improve gaming performance by up to 26%

In context: Intel Core Ultra 200 desktop processors faced criticism from reviewers upon their launch in October as the new flagship Arrow Lake-S lineup. While they performed well in compute tests, gaming performance was lackluster, with the chips being outperformed by the previous Raptor Lake generation in multiple titles.

Intel swiftly investigated the issue and determined that a combination of power plan issues, anti-cheat settings, and other random factors were to blame – the primary issue being a missing Performance & Power Management (PPM) package.

The initial round of fixes was released before the holidays in a mandatory Windows 11 update, along with patches from publishers. However, Intel noted that the crucial BIOS update to fully unlock the Ultra 200’s potential would be unveiled at CES in January. This update has now been released, and according to Intel’s internal tests, it has significantly addressed the performance concerns.

Intel’s data shows notable gaming performance improvements. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077, Intel claims that the fixes could result in a remarkable 26% increase in frames per second on patched Ultra 200 systems, as reported by PC World. Additionally, Far Cry 6 could see up to a 16% boost in FPS.

The performance enhancements extend beyond gaming. Intel also conducted tests using the popular 3DMark TimeSpy synthetic benchmark and stated that patched Ultra 200 systems could experience a potential 97% increase in overall scores.
