Sony has reportedly cancelled two unannounced games as part of its focus on live services, potentially impacting jobs at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games.

A spokesperson confirmed the cancellations to Bloomberg, stating that the decision was made after a recent review. However, both studios will not be shut down as a result.

“Bend and Bluepoint are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are collaborating with each studio to determine their next projects,” the spokesperson said.

The specific projects being worked on by the studios remain unknown, but Bluepoint hinted at a God of War related project in their 2022 Christmas message. Bend Studio

There is a possibility of job losses, but Sony is working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to minimize any negative impact, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg.

This is the latest setback for Sony in their push towards live service games, with several high-profile failures in recent years. Despite successes like Helldivers 2 and Gran Turismo 7, Sony has faced challenges such as the failure of Concord and the closure of several studios.

While some live service projects are still in development, Sony’s focus on this model has faced criticism for its inconsistent results. The future of Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games remains uncertain, with potential job losses looming.
