'Rust'-like Sci-fi VR Survival Game 'GRIM' Hits Early Access This Week, Trailer Here

Combat Waffle Studios and Beyond Frames Entertainment, the studios behind VR survival shooter Ghosts of Tabor (2023), have announced the launch of a new VR game into early access this week. This game is heavily inspired by the popular game Rust (2018).

Developed by Spoonfed Interactive with support from Combat Waffle, GRIM is bringing a Rust-style multiplayer survival experience to PC VR and Quest users starting this month.

Similar to Rust, Grim will focus on crafting, scavenging for food, and surviving in a harsh environment. Set on a dying Mars depleted of resources and littered with remnants of failed colonization attempts, the game will be available for SteamVR headsets and Quest on January 16th.

In Grim, players will find themselves stranded on Mars facing extreme weather conditions and exploring abandoned outposts for supplies. They must also manage their hunger, hydration, and oxygen levels. The game features a persistent environment, with player-built structures remaining until the server undergoes its weekly reset.

Beyond Frames Entertainment, the publisher of Ghosts of Tabor, has once again partnered with Combat Waffle Studios to publish Grim. Combat Waffle will provide ongoing support and guidance to Spoonfed Interactive, a one-man studio, during the development process.

The Early Access Alpha of Grim is described as the beginning of a collaborative journey, inviting early adopters to share feedback and help shape the game’s mechanics and features. This approach mirrors the successful launch strategy employed for Ghosts of Tabor.

Players on Quest and SteamVR can purchase Grim in Early Access Alpha for $20 starting on January 16th.
