At this year's big speedrunning fest, Elden Ring bosses will be defeated with the power of saxophone

The annual speedrunning extravaganza Awesome Games Done Quick is kicking off this weekend with a musical twist. The lineup includes a player tackling a series of Elden Ring boss battles using a saxophone as a controller, as well as 16 minutes of Crazy Taxi with a live band providing the soundtrack. Other highlights include a co-op run of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild sharing a single controller, and a speedrun attempt to romance all characters in Fallout: New Vegas in under 30 minutes – did you even know that was possible?

Don’t forget about the eight romanceable characters in the post-apocalyptic world of New Vegas, including a robot named “Fisto”. Get ready for some quirky fun starting on Sunday, the 5th, and running through Sunday, the 12th. A week of saxophone shenanigans awaits. Check out the full schedule on the Games Done Quick website.

The inclusion of Crazy Taxi in the speedrunning event may be tied to the news of an upcoming reboot, with music from the original soundtrack making an appearance. While the original game featured tracks from Offspring and Bad Religion, later releases had to remove them due to licensing issues.

Be sure to watch the band set to perform at Awesome Games Done Quick playing the Offspring track “Way Down The Line” in their submission video, complete with speedrunning references and game timer interruptions. It’s a fun watch!

On the musical side, “Dr. Doot” will be showcasing his saxophone skills in a no-hits run of Elden Ring bosses, adding a unique twist to the speedrunning experience.

Newer games like Alan Wake 2, Windblown, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and the Silent Hill 2 remake will also be featured in various speedruns. Additionally, a challenge to complete UFO 50 within 50 minutes adds an interesting element to the event.

Games Done Quick events are known for raising millions for charity, and this year’s event will once again support the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Last year’s Summer Games Done Quick event saw a Sekiro player overcoming technical difficulties to surpass the $2.5 million fundraising mark.
