An unofficial PC port of Star Fox 64 has arrived just in time for Christmas

TL;DR: The team behind the PC port of Ocarina of Time has been working on a new project – a high-profile port of Star Fox 64. This fan-made PC port promises to offer a more enjoyable experience compared to traditional emulation.

Update (Dec 23): Starship, the PC port of Star Fox 64, is now available on Github.

Harbour Masters 64 recently revealed their latest project on their Discord server – Starship, a fan-made PC port of the classic Nintendo 64 game Star Fox 64. This follows their successful PC port of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which offered enhanced graphics and performance.

Developers Sonic Dreamcaster, Samplywx, and others have been working on Starship for several months and are now showcasing their progress. A beta version was recently streamed by a Star Fox speedrunner on Twitch and YouTube, revealing that some features are still in development.

Harbour Masters 64 is known for creating native ports by decompiling game source code, resulting in a better gaming experience with improved graphics, frame rates, and additional features like modding support and compatibility with various hardware setups.

The final version of Starship/Star Fox 64 for PC is expected to be released by Harbour Masters 64 in December. Users will need to own a copy of the original game to use the PC port to avoid any legal issues.

While native ports are legal, Nintendo has a history of protecting its intellectual property. Despite this, previous PC ports like Ship of Harkinian have remained available for download, indicating that Starship should also be safe for players to enjoy.
