Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog's next big game

Naughty Dog’s upcoming game and new franchise is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, delving into the realms of science fiction with a futuristic setting thousands of years ahead.

The title may ring a bell, as it was previously trademarked by Sony. This project has been in the works since 2020 and is anticipated to debut on PlayStation 5.

Intergalactic puts players in the shoes of Jordan A. Mun (portrayed by Tati Gabrielle), a stranded bounty hunter near Sempiria, a planet isolated from the rest of the galaxy centuries ago. The primary objective appears to be bounty collection and finding a way to break free from orbit to re-enter the wider galaxy.

“Beyond that, we’re keeping details about the storyline confidential,” shared Neil Druckmann in the unveiling on the PlayStation Blog. He added, “This game will feature the most intricate gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, building upon our past franchises and taking them to new heights.”

Similar to Naughty Dog’s recent titles, the emphasis will be on character development and emotional narratives, with an ensemble cast yet to be unveiled – although Troy Baker’s involvement wouldn’t be surprising. The music will be crafted by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, as showcased in the trailer.

The game embraces retro-futuristic technology, showcasing a sleek Porsche spaceship equipped with CRT screens, a Sony multi-disc CD player, Cyberpunk-inspired jackets, and more. While familiar elements are present, the intrigue lies in how Naughty Dog will craft a compelling narrative around them – especially considering that The Last of Us, while a beloved title, revolves around a world akin to a zombie apocalypse.
