Open world sword-swinger Crimson Desert horse-powerslides to a late 2025 release

Crimson Desert made its debut in 2020 with an impressive trailer at Gamescom 2023, showcasing stunning medieval open world action adventure. Featuring horses, fishing, plate armor, and epic heroism, the game was missing one crucial detail – a release date. However, thanks to The Geoff Awards, that has changed. Crimson Desert is set to be released sometime in late 2025.

If you’re not familiar with the game, you take on the role of Kliff exploring the open world of Pywel. Within this vast world, you will battle goblins and medieval foes, ride wyverns, engage in rock climbing, cooking, and even solve puzzles. The game promises “endless discovery” with “aerial Abysses.” Early impressions from Alice Bee (RPS in peace) likened it to mid-series Assassin’s Creed games during their more whimsical moments. Personally, I believe it may be attempting too much and could potentially result in a 6/10 experience. However, that level of middling silliness might just be what I need.

Our own James had the opportunity to try out the game at this year’s Gamescom and was not overly impressed. While he acknowledged the spectacle of the combat-focused demo, he found the fighting mechanics to be “twangy” and “unwieldy.” However, he did enjoy the exploration aspects, describing them as “delightfully madcap.” For a more detailed preview, check out his full article here.
