Microsoft Recall is capturing screenshots of sensitive information like credit card and social security numbers
Microsoft’s Recall Feature Raises Privacy Concerns Microsoft’s latest Recall feature has sparked privacy outrage due to its AI-based Windows surveillance capabilities. Despite promises of improved privacy safeguards, users are now questioning the true extent of Microsoft’s commitment to protecting their data.
After multiple delays, Microsoft is finally rolling out Recall to more systems and CPU architectures. This new feature continuously takes desktop screenshots, utilizing a large language model to scan and process information. While intended to enhance Copilot’s AI model, Recall has been criticized for its significant privacy risks.
Testing by Tom’s Hardware revealed that Recall’s supposed privacy filter fails to prevent the capture of sensitive information such as credit card numbers and personal data. Even when activated, Recall continues to store private information from various applications, raising red flags about user privacy.
Despite some success in filtering out sensitive data from online transactions, Recall’s indiscriminate collection of personal information remains a cause for concern. Users are advised to disable the feature and exercise caution when using Windows 11.
Microsoft has defended Recall as a privacy-conscious tool that is continually being improved to better detect and protect sensitive information. Users are encouraged to provide feedback through the Feedback Hub to aid in the feature’s development.
