3 Things I Want to See From Smartwatches in 2025
A lot of exciting developments took place in the smartwatch industry this year, from the introduction of two sizes for the Pixel Watch to the release of the first Fan Edition of the Galaxy Watch. However, there are still areas for improvement, and here are my top three wishes.
Better battery life
Improving battery life is a common wish for any device that relies on a battery, and smartwatches are no exception. Many smartwatches still struggle to last more than a day, leaving users with a device that may not be very useful after a short period of time. OnePlus has shown that impressive battery life is achievable with its dual-engine setup on the OnePlus Watch 2R, which was our favorite smartwatch of 2024. It would be beneficial for other smartwatch manufacturers to adopt similar technologies and explore other ways to extend battery life, whether through more efficient chips, better batteries, improved software, or a combination of all of these.

More choice
In 2024, there were some improvements in terms of choice in the smartwatch market, but there is still more to be done. The availability of different sizes, colors, and materials is crucial for meeting the diverse preferences of consumers. Google addressed this issue with the Pixel Watch 3, offering 41- and 45mm sizes, but many smartwatches still come in only one size. It’s important for manufacturers like OnePlus and Samsung to provide more options to cater to different wrist sizes and preferences.
A cheaper Pixel Watch
My final wish is for Google to introduce a budget-friendly version of the Pixel Watch, following the success of the A-series in Pixel phones and earbuds. This more affordable smartwatch could feature cheaper materials and a simplified feature set compared to the flagship Pixel Watch models. Not everyone can afford a high-end smartwatch, and offering a more affordable option would allow more consumers to enjoy the benefits of wearable technology without compromising on quality.
It would also be great to see Motorola re-enter the smartwatch market in the UK, providing even more choice for consumers.
