Hundreds of firearms have been confiscated in Waterloo, as reported by Waterloo Regional Police.

The direct action response team of Waterloo Regional Police uncovered the firearms during an investigation earlier this month.

Authorities stopped a vehicle in the area of Weber Street North and Bridgeport Road East on Friday night for a traffic violation, where they discovered firearms and ammunition inside. A total of 17 firearms were seized from the vehicle.

The driver, a 39-year-old man from Guelph, was arrested and charged, and subsequently held for a bail hearing.

Following the vehicle stop, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Guelph on Saturday. Inside the home, they found an additional 216 firearms, with 156 of them being improperly stored. They also discovered quantities of ammunition, magazines, and firearm parts.

Authorities have indicated that more charges are forthcoming in this case.
