2 Million Baked Goods Are Recalled Over Listeria Risk

Approximately two million baked goods, including certain doughnuts and coffee rolls sold at Dunkin’, have been recalled due to concerns of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, as stated by federal safety regulators.

The manufacturer FGF Brands, known for distributing baked goods in the United States and Canada, initiated the voluntary recall because of the “potential for contamination with Listeria monocytogenes,” according to a report released by the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday.

The recalled products consist of various flavors of doughnuts, French crullers, éclairs, and coffee rolls. Some of these items were sold at Dunkin’ and were manufactured before December 13, 2024, according to the F.D.A. The source of the contamination has not been identified.

The recall, effective as of January 7, was classified as a Class II on Wednesday by the F.D.A., indicating a situation where exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

The agency did not report any illnesses associated with the recalled baked goods.

FGF Brands stated in a release that the voluntary recall was a precautionary measure based on non-product related findings at one of its doughnut facilities in the U.S.

The company emphasized that no doughnuts or food contact surfaces tested positive for listeria.

Dunkin’ did not provide an immediate response to inquiries on Sunday.

Listeria is identified as the third leading cause of death from food-borne illness in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Infections from listeria are rare but can lead to serious illnesses, especially in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, older adults, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Every year in the U.S., an estimated 1,600 individuals are infected with listeria, resulting in approximately 260 deaths from these infections, according to the C.D.C.

The most recent listeria-related recall occurred in December when Braga Fresh recalled a single lot of ready-to-eat broccoli florets sold at Walmart stores.
