19-year-old woman sexually assaulted on Upper East Side
A 19-year-old woman was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted near Gracie Mansion, causing her to scream in terror, according to police reports.
The horrifying incident took place around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday in the vicinity of East 90th Street and East End Avenue, just a block away from the official residence of the mayor.
An attentive doorman came to the woman’s aid upon hearing her cries for help, scaring off the assailant who had approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground, and assaulted her, as reported by the police.
“This young lady was on the floor frantically crying, blood on her shirt and nose,” the doorman recalled.
The attacker fled westbound on East 90th Street, while the victim was taken to New York Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
The heroic doorman, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted how he responded to the screams by grabbing his flashlight and investigating the situation.
He then saw the suspect running towards York Avenue.
‘’Hey, what are you doing?” the doorman shouted.
The perpetrator continued to run away, and the doorman shifted his focus to assisting the victim.
The doorman, who stayed with the victim until the police arrived, emphasized that his actions were driven by his instincts as a father, wanting to help someone in need.
Reflecting on the incident, the doorman mentioned that his wife believed it was a divine intervention that placed him in the right place at the right time to aid another individual.
In the aftermath of the attack, other doormen in the neighborhood cautioned residents to be cautious, especially during nighttime hours.
“This area is very desolate when it gets late,” one doorman stated, expressing hopes for the victim’s recovery.
Police described the suspect as approximately 6-feet-tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt with white stripes, and dark-colored jeans. The NYPD did not disclose whether the victim was a passerby or a resident of the neighborhood.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online at the Crime Stoppers website or via @NYPDTips.
