16 people injured after cruise ship hits stormy New Zealand seas - National

During a 14-day excursion from Sydney, Australia, the Crown Princess cruise liner encountered choppy waters near New Zealand’s South Island last month, resulting in at least sixteen minor injuries.

As the ship navigated near Milford Sound on Feb. 25, it changed course and faced strong winds, causing it to lean dramatically to one side. This led to food spilling in the kitchen, staff rushing to stabilize the ship, and passengers clinging to tables in the canteen to avoid sliding.

Footage from inside the vessel showed the pool overflowing and chaos in the canteen as the ship tilted sideways.

Witnesses recounted the chaotic scene, with one man realizing the ship was tilting while walking, and a female passenger describing tables and chairs flying around the canteen.

Stores on board were left in disarray, with staff scrambling to gather merchandise scattered on the floor.

Reportedly, the ship tilted over 14 degrees for 40 seconds, resulting in 16 injuries, with 13 passengers and 3 crew members affected.

Princess Cruises assured that the safety of the ship was not compromised during the incident and that the vessel continued its journey without any structural damage. They mentioned that crew members responded swiftly to stabilize the ship.

Despite the ordeal, the Crown Princess, accommodating 3,090 passengers, proceeded to its destination after the incident.
