11 unforgettable scenes from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards

One cold morning during the Chinese New Year, a Pallas’s cat prepares for breakfast with a freshly caught bird. Xingchao Zhu captured this moment, with the wild cat’s golden eyes connecting with the camera against the backdrop of the setting moon.
Xingchao Zhu captured a Pallas’s cat as the moon sets. He had tracked a group of these cats in Inner Mongolia during the Chinese New Year. Just before dawn, he made eye contact with this cat, which had caught a bird.
Pallas’s cats survive in harsh conditions at high altitudes by being stealthy and using their unique physical features. Their thick coats and low, rounded ears help them avoid predators and obstacles.
